Later Silverfox performed for guests who were on a mystery trip. This was taken early on. Despite the chilly temps many enjoyed the fire and the music.

Picking up
Things seem to really pick up as we get closer to departure day. There seems to be so many last minute have-to-do's. That has been true in every place we have been for any length of time. I think it was a little more so here because we were busy enough throughout the summer that it could be hard to get away. Now the weather is cooler and the golf playing is slowing down bringing about the we-better-do-that-while-we-are-here syndrome. Thus we have been on the move and my computer time has fallen off severely as you probably have noticed.
Thursday was spent beading with the girls in the morning. We have so few days for that left so cannot miss one. Followed by a trip to Alpena with Tom and Wanda. We met up with Ronni and Rob who were doing the last minute shopping trip before their departure on Sunday. We had our usual ice cream stop at the North Country Store and then Rob and Ronni continued their shopping and we went to the Marine Museum that we had planned to visit all summer but didn't, meeting up with the Silver's again at The Portage where we enjoyed a very nice meal while enjoying the view of Lake Huron. That finished off that day as we drove home in the dark. Something we rarely do anymore. I know, we are aging.
Friday I spent way too many hours organizing photos. As the season ends I like to get them in their little slots so if I need them later I can find them. Doesn't seem to work but I try!
I also forgot to mention that Butch and I took a fall color photo walk while the sun was bright and shiny. I took some above average shots and had fun doing it.
Butch spent the day campground hosting and getting chairs and bonfire ready for a Silverfox performance. And we celebrated Tom's birthday and helped him eat his from scratch German Chocolate Cake baked by his wife Wanda. We forget how extra special a from scratch cake is until we once again have the experience.
It always seems to be feast or famine;full days and nights with little blogging time thrown in.

Mother in Laws Tongue in Bloom
Must be a year for blooming! This from friend Bev Meyer :
I WROTE IOWA STATE UNI. AND GOT BACK THIS . FUNNY NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE PICTURES
CINDY SAYS IT BLOOMS AT NIGHT. This is what I wrote and their answer.
I am Beverly Meyer ,Lewis ,iowa
My daughter lives at Grand lake Colo. When my husband and I were married his mother had a plant
called Mothers Tougue. This was 53 years ago . When she died my daughter got the plant. So who
knows how old it is. This summer it started to bloom. I remember my parents saying they can bloom but very rare. Would like information on this.
Nice plant. This is a Mother-in-Law Tongue or Snake Plant. The scientific name is Sanseveiria trifasciata. It is a wonderful houseplant that is durable and long-lived. While it rarely blooms, they are greatly appreciated when they do send up a flower. I have attached a link to a nice article written by Extension staff in Illinois (sorry – guess we haven’t written anything lately in Iowa about it).
Enjoy your plant!

Frankenmuth and Saginaw MI
Five of us women of Thunder Bay resort traveled south for over two hours to bead shops, one in Frankenmuth and the other in Saginaw. In between the two bead shops we greatly enjoyed lunch at a very busy German restaurant ( the name escapes me). I had what they called a Hazelwood Sandwich made up of sliced turkey, bacon, melted cheese, coleslaw on top contained in a toasted croissant. It was scrumptious! And then we returned home. As you can probably guess we spent all of our time in the two bead shops.
The leaf color on the return trip was of the knock your socks off variety but we were over half way back before that was true. It is still very green in Saginaw.
Here are some photos from our day.

Color Filled Fall
One of the greens mowers broke down so Butch is mowing all 18 holes today. I am thinking he has only one more day of that next weekend before we head out. Yesterday was a cold, blustery, misty, rainy day. Today it is just cold. I know I am of the wimpy sort where 40's is cold. It just is. I did switch back to Swedish weaving yesterday because it feels really good to have a warm afghan on my lap.
Last night Butch and I ate at The Grill here at Thunder Bay and it was delicious. BBQ pork ribs, baked potato, salad, rolls broccoli. On special for $9.95. It was too much food and we both brought home half our meal for another time. It was really, really good though.
I took a peek out the window and there is a man teeing off in shorts!! Boy is he being optimistic! The high for today is 57 degrees.
There are a couple of trees I have my eye on. I am waiting for the sun to appear from behind the light cloud cover to get a good photo of them. The ones below look pretty good but we always look for the better looking one.
