So now we are in Altoona at the Adventureland Campground. The ferris wheel appears to be in our backyard. There is a bike trail within biking distance and I do not feel settled in yet. Last night we went to Fratellos for "dueling pianos". Jared Hall is one of the pianists. Jared's mom Sherri and Randy Clark joined us along with lifelong friends and classmates Denise O'Brien-Van and Jack Lewis. The place was packed and jumpin' as they say. Denise said, "What are we doing? This is a 'school night' !" I cannot remember the last time I was out that late and at a bar....Yes, I can too. It was to hear Jared play at Stanton, IA quite some time ago.
Butch and Gary went golfing in-between events the rest of us participated in. http://www.santacaligon.com/default.htm We next went to Independence MO to experience Santa Cali Gon days. This is where the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails originated. We went on Sunday and again on Monday to see the Beatles clones. Actually the group is named Liverpool but they do a tribute to the Beatles and very well I must say. They stay in character throughout their act.
Whew! Time to catch up. We went to Lee's Summit over the holiday and Gary kept us on the move as usual. On Saturday morning we went into KC and rode a portion of the Indian Creek trail. Very different riding from what I am used to; hairpin turns added to sudden steep inclines plus many pedestrians! I think the scenery was beautiful but I was almost too busy to notice. I did get a few scenic shots after we stopped. This fella was fishing for an hour to pass the time. He said he got a really good one the day before.
