Last summer Colleen gave me a gourd. Butch put a quarter sized hole in it and hung it from the clothesline pole. Within two weeks, a wren had taken up residence and we were very surprised.
I told my hairdresser, Marcia about it and she said they had lots of gourds in the garage attic. They had been there many years. She gave me a sack full shortly before we left for the winter. I gave some to Jason and this is how he decorated one of them. I am sure the wrens at his house will be very pleased with their new abode.
