But it will be starting to peek its leafy head before long in the midwest. I have had a Rhubarb Pudding recipe for most of my life that was a must-make every Spring.</p><p>Here is the recipe from an earlier post;<span style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">This is an old-time, all-time family favorite and one the whole family asks for every Spring. You cannot even imagine my relief in finding it. Like finding a long-lost friend. Thank you, Sherri Clark for sending me on the last of many searches for this recipe.</span></p><div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"><b> Rhubarb Pudding</b></div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"><br /></div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">3 C. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, preferably in the hands of an unknown collector.</p><p>Our descendants will hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father?</p><p>After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos, and deeds disappear into history's oblivion. We won't even be memories.</p><p>If we pause one day to analyze these questions, we may understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was.</p><p>If we could only think about this, our approaches, and our thoughts would change, and we would be different people.</p><p>Always having more, no time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all, they would fill our lives with joy.</p><p>Some of us waste it daily with greed, selfishness, and intolerance.</p><p>Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.❤️</p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-91120046437571754932024-03-12T08:22:00.000-05:002024-03-12T08:22:08.431-05:00Salisbury Steak?<p> There was a happy hour conversation about Salisbury Steak so I started perusing the Internet and came across this recipe. It is just the way of things and after all the years we have watched it happen we know how it goes, and it is okay.</p><p><br /></p><p>I looked at the calendar and noticed it was Bill Stilson's birthday. Bill is gone now. He and his wife Kay were close friends of ours when we were in Magnolia. Kay is back in Iowa and we miss them both very much. I know she keeps track of us through the blog and we check in on each other once in a while...So Hi! Kay. Thinking of you today.</p><p>This is going to be one of those days where I will write randomly about whatever pops into my mind. The daily happy hour: Some people have a misconception about Bill and Sandi's happy hour. Everyone is welcome. It takes place from 4:00 to 5:00pm daily. Bring your own drink. No politics or gossip. It has been my experience that the knowledge obtained is priceless. You will find answers to nearly every question you may have. YES, MARS.<p> I came upon this photo of Mars. It is a NASA photo taken by Mariner 9 easily found on the Internet. It is the clearest photo ever taken of Mars. This was on Facebook. Being an amateur photographer, it caught my eye. I have a Nikon P900 camera and I have taken many close up pictures of the moon.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgwaxFWvcangePaH-Vkgh1G7LPEHiKBDhbt4vjAXTwe8JsYKrqzFlaHRyOKS0Lv6mFpNAB6i9imEiwH1DyMDAAGNJ1qW9tP6QJNaLUf-HvPMAZha-6cG79xnGBCZqiw2eCuDd-Mp1gE_-lTPorBIvNrdysTfQpR5YgwyflM7xQ1VadpX5EfHDPvMg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgwaxFWvcangePaH-Vkgh1G7LPEHiKBDhbt4vjAXTwe8JsYKrqzFlaHRyOKS0Lv6mFpNAB6i9imEiwH1DyMDAAGNJ1qW9tP6QJNaLUf-HvPMAZha-6cG79xnGBCZqiw2eCuDd-Mp1gE_-lTPorBIvNrdysTfQpR5YgwyflM7xQ1VadpX5EfHDPvMg=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></div><br /><b>Below are photos I have taken of the moon with my Nikon P900...Read on...It is worth a click for the moon pic. What is your point, you might say. I started reading the comments under the Facebook photos of Mars and was shocked to see the number of posts claiming those photos were fake! Now I know you can't fix stupid but this got under my skin and I contemplated posting facts myself on Facebook trying to educate the uneducated but an old saying comes to mind. "You do not have to show up to every fight you are invited to." However, I do own a blog and I can post as much truth as I want. Thanks for your patience. There were only six women players. I was a bundle of nerves and lost my first match. A match is 2 out of 3 games. I had to sit for a long time for my next match and I had settled down by then and won that one. We had an issue with slow play, so they decided to continue the tournament to next Tuesday. The slow play issue will be discussed. Hopefully, it will not be an obstacle next time. There is a Billiards book rule to define it. Bottom line; I am still in the mix.</p><p>and then the second half of the Trophy Men's singles took place on Wednesday and Butch didn't get in the top of that one.</p><p>Wednesday night we went to a square dance, the second one we have attended. We have continued to go to lessons but have passed on the dances with only one exception. It felt like old times! I am not in much of a hurry to add one more activity but it seems it has happened. The plus side is that it increases the physical and mental capacities at the same time and that is a huge bonus! They will be starting beginner lessons next January in Alamo Palms. Hopefully, we can get some new people enthused from Trophy Gardens to go with us. My next thing will be to retain the physical and mental capacities I have gained when I return to Iowa.</p><p>Today the feature in the park is a craft expo. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These are random pictures I took during the Craft Expo.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8TviUYtbKsEUk3giIn3LnxM06p5YLLTF2wUqY1TUdCUuxMihRnyrXEdHLmKNJRFn9mBRpH0zkWlUWIhQqoDkM3UJmHNDLo0appk68CGZD78RsGiA8HllQrFWWwH8QpoUmfLNDAoVAmwPAtoidQWKQgs7laGWAyl4NlRpvYVsF-RqQjpRcOGKOSQ/s4608/SWBarbB1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8TviUYtbKsEUk3giIn3LnxM06p5YLLTF2wUqY1TUdCUuxMihRnyrXEdHLmKNJRFn9mBRpH0zkWlUWIhQqoDkM3UJmHNDLo0appk68CGZD78RsGiA8HllQrFWWwH8QpoUmfLNDAoVAmwPAtoidQWKQgs7laGWAyl4NlRpvYVsF-RqQjpRcOGKOSQ/w400-h300/SWBarbB1.JPG" width="400" /></a>This is the last Swedish Weaving project I did.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht3KfOvMYNxcm8OySQiFTcB7LAse_7cRYFyNXx2bN7nEo9nUFTsclwNNhpEJadcY57h7hUYYTbmshVwiXAyIwZbCm9Cwd1jl-wrxnWY7sgUxTIRsTzS7Z7jsnTUV2Nxfrsax7IZ_XFilqxDy-gvg9NNCpI6du9IVSKBlC4nIMbWXN0z6bYOZwLpg/s4608/Stainglass.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht3KfOvMYNxcm8OySQiFTcB7LAse_7cRYFyNXx2bN7nEo9nUFTsclwNNhpEJadcY57h7hUYYTbmshVwiXAyIwZbCm9Cwd1jl-wrxnWY7sgUxTIRsTzS7Z7jsnTUV2Nxfrsax7IZ_XFilqxDy-gvg9NNCpI6du9IVSKBlC4nIMbWXN0z6bYOZwLpg/w400-h300/Stainglass.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKbB6XUmoTNyBwkpkJGXjUAL1o9tmfPc1AIKtBmSDIPfXoAB6Xzt6pMAjM4EnbEWLmKVDzQul1YDgGofM7OL7fbz44Q3oq0tPVI-ak2xm3i7bR_SyirMZAERXlFnnUILBmxortQ8Hmw2-cahrdpeN88nlMj0-WsQeZOCt8XhfiUEr2XOA2etTRQ/s4608/StainedGlass2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKbB6XUmoTNyBwkpkJGXjUAL1o9tmfPc1AIKtBmSDIPfXoAB6Xzt6pMAjM4EnbEWLmKVDzQul1YDgGofM7OL7fbz44Q3oq0tPVI-ak2xm3i7bR_SyirMZAERXlFnnUILBmxortQ8Hmw2-cahrdpeN88nlMj0-WsQeZOCt8XhfiUEr2XOA2etTRQ/w640-h480/StainedGlass2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bill Danielson's Stained glass projects.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTpEzt7Nk5BetmmCUl0FYmfpxak6bIgwSwClp6lgLwZ6fN9xLhjtJPEfBUFNzhsoHhTT7TCb2B4N91NKKzom_dFNWJe1nCFrbfjEq7qY1jMdHqPYjSckNTGajiQu3GRoVhnejdobl_9J2VvRgO5dLh42oSGG8Y8s_6mkZuEKlPNnZNBi5nhCO7g/s4608/SandiD.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTpEzt7Nk5BetmmCUl0FYmfpxak6bIgwSwClp6lgLwZ6fN9xLhjtJPEfBUFNzhsoHhTT7TCb2B4N91NKKzom_dFNWJe1nCFrbfjEq7qY1jMdHqPYjSckNTGajiQu3GRoVhnejdobl_9J2VvRgO5dLh42oSGG8Y8s_6mkZuEKlPNnZNBi5nhCO7g/w400-h300/SandiD.JPG" width="400" /></a>Sandi Danielson, instructor of Diamond Art. Come the first of March and sometimes sooner people start returning to the Northern parts. As February fades and March marches in people will start disappearing. We have watched it happen for nearly 20 years now; back to their other life.</p><p>We won't be leaving for a while. Mid-April is when we venture north and even then it often could be warmer up there. Both of our lives, our summer lives and our winter lives appeal to us and we in turn look forward to both.</p><p>So this last week of February is loaded with things to do. Today is square dancing at noon in Alamo Palms with new friends Diane and Dean Ringen and old friends Terry and Lisa Linder. And then Diane and I will head to the pool hall to catch the last hour of ladies day. I have a pool board meeting at 3:00 followed by happy hour at 4:00 with Bill and Sandi Danielson and whoever else can make it.</p><p>Tomorrow is Women's in-park pool competition; followed by Trivia at 6:30. The trivia people will be anxious to be there after missing last week due to a scheduling conflict that didn't happen.</p><p>The rest of the week slows down a bit for us and that is a good thing.</p><p><br /></p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-88626253844181314232024-02-17T09:47:00.001-06:002024-02-17T09:47:20.495-06:00Really?<p> This was part of a comedy skit in the main hall. January and February are the two busiest months of the year for us in South Texas. When we left Magnolia I made a vow to myself that I would not be as heavily scheduled when we were in Trophy. At times it is a struggle although I am not nearly as busy as I could be if I continually said "yes". Having too many interests is definitely part of it. I enjoy doing the things we do very much. Monday, we square dance at noon in another park. I can still get in an hour or so of pool when we come home even though I arrive late. Tuesdays are my busiest day. Pool is from 1:00 to 3:00 for me and then trivia from 6:30 to 8:30PM. Butch goes to the pool hall on Tuesday nights to practice up for Wednesdays. Butch is tied up with pool on Wednesdays and it is my day off. I say it is my day off but I do have to get next weeks trivia questions put together and do household chores. Thursday is a day off for both of us and that is when we do things outside the park, like go to Mexico, shopping and appointments etc. Fridays is a big pool day for Butch. Enough already!</p><p>I plan to go to the Stained Glass Museum with the Linders tomorrow. I plan to take my camera and I hope they allow photos. Photography has been mostly on the back burner. I do not count phone pics as photography. There is a definite difference when compared.</p><p>Thursday night I am going with a couple of friends to a Swedish Weaving class. No, I am not teaching it. There is already someone doing the teaching and I will be a helper, gladly.</p><p>So I have given you a peek into what's happening with us. </p><p>Going through some old photos: </p><p>Guessing on age...Butch at 17.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNVMwLGHTd1asOOTBEGV7-UHis2ejm6JMjY23g6_Jy_xITidEzoWEZ99t8Uw8cakSekoPkQabETd2z4N-iZC_ZlhuSylnPB4jYPIETb6mCIuuZrSSskgP_h7hZSKSg2d-G44yTI0BsQxxBk9vRmbmL86AunUUyAmab5mtB-282wucCzyuLjuSn7Q/s272/40th%20Anniv%20(13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="272" data-original-width="198" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNVMwLGHTd1asOOTBEGV7-UHis2ejm6JMjY23g6_Jy_xITidEzoWEZ99t8Uw8cakSekoPkQabETd2z4N-iZC_ZlhuSylnPB4jYPIETb6mCIuuZrSSskgP_h7hZSKSg2d-G44yTI0BsQxxBk9vRmbmL86AunUUyAmab5mtB-282wucCzyuLjuSn7Q/w466-h640/40th%20Anniv%20(13).jpg" width="466" /></a><span style="text-align: left;">.</span></div><p></p><p>Barb at 15<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD0HTxChNcqcW2hsYOZe80wsmNozBOSanScQnwJTer8aWZBfygMW7ia6_neu884EiqMAFN_k7tAOvB3fSIsk6FsD6QRQVH7EpN-Cpzhe12jVVMmLo8RbSmg5ksCR4sfFSbn88PQo7rAOoQLv8EviZlUPA6Z3abpkAUwxHNT-fyaGDsTYxGkOvBWg/s266/40th%20Anniv%20(12).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="197" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD0HTxChNcqcW2hsYOZe80wsmNozBOSanScQnwJTer8aWZBfygMW7ia6_neu884EiqMAFN_k7tAOvB3fSIsk6FsD6QRQVH7EpN-Cpzhe12jVVMmLo8RbSmg5ksCR4sfFSbn88PQo7rAOoQLv8EviZlUPA6Z3abpkAUwxHNT-fyaGDsTYxGkOvBWg/w474-h640/40th%20Anniv%20(12).jpg" width="474" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-74357718628985995932024-02-11T15:50:00.002-06:002024-02-11T15:50:50.896-06:00Pool Hall results for Mixed Doubles<p>Our friends may notice that neither I nor Butch made it to the winner's circle this week. She always does my hair just like I like it. I also had one here in Texas who lived in the park and was equally as good and very handy to have close. I should have known things are always changing and my friend and hairdresser decided it was time to hang it up. I always wondered how she could stand to be so busy. So now she is getting a well-deserved rest and is truly retired.</p><p>I tried a local place that was recommended and I went 3 times. I think that was a fair trial since I was unhappy with the cut three times. It takes me a while to decide if it will work or not. I never believe it is good to judge right away because your head and hair have to get together and decide if they will cooperate. They didn't. </p><p>And then I caught wind of a woman in the park who in her working years owned 3 salons and taught at a cosmetology school and she was willing to cut hair for a donation. That sounded good to me so I made an appointment and I cannot praise her enough! I got up this morning, wet my hands, and ran them through my hair and I was ready for the day looking better than I have since leaving Iowa! It is amazing.</p><p>Her name is Rhonda and I was reminded of the song by the Beach Boys. The only part that applies is the title! Help Me, Rhonda!!! Her number is floating around the park and if you need it get in touch with me.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpy4BBF-o8ONVGFyZFxDgWJRpeHaiRsOtq7Wb_Wtg8g-nRx8wsCjeLsXb_lSNp8a2ix9HmPXgeEzcbPEh1C0Fwmwhewdtl4-hPdQnEqj3jbVQEWdiTNQUJ-ZdGmuPt5LX5km-qAQJjndl4p4i5tUt8XS-_JLGmYjLpNy2Ol2YOe7-B_ryBLbtB7w/s2130/PXL_20240209_200748476~2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2130" data-original-width="1818" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpy4BBF-o8ONVGFyZFxDgWJRpeHaiRsOtq7Wb_Wtg8g-nRx8wsCjeLsXb_lSNp8a2ix9HmPXgeEzcbPEh1C0Fwmwhewdtl4-hPdQnEqj3jbVQEWdiTNQUJ-ZdGmuPt5LX5km-qAQJjndl4p4i5tUt8XS-_JLGmYjLpNy2Ol2YOe7-B_ryBLbtB7w/w546-h640/PXL_20240209_200748476~2.jpg" width="546" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy7e4RObxl9cisvwpxrvfUxWl1IF9x-g_J7dLp6s_jsnKnhzy2cYCMgg_imldgmQ6avFjzLjBjjtWrVwuokAAcxgGGtOaMYvVS67w8eFByjryztZ347yHVgW3NaqFlQO51b0D_yHFiorhkPqoUf3hKqdThMuubU1hNOBlT9aGb75NZlUr2UuRrVw/s3280/PXL_20240209_201247281.MP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3280" data-original-width="2464" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy7e4RObxl9cisvwpxrvfUxWl1IF9x-g_J7dLp6s_jsnKnhzy2cYCMgg_imldgmQ6avFjzLjBjjtWrVwuokAAcxgGGtOaMYvVS67w8eFByjryztZ347yHVgW3NaqFlQO51b0D_yHFiorhkPqoUf3hKqdThMuubU1hNOBlT9aGb75NZlUr2UuRrVw/w480-h640/PXL_20240209_201247281.MP.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-42595157642096107892024-02-07T10:44:00.000-06:002024-02-07T10:44:20.363-06:00First Free Day<p> I love waking up and thinking I have a "FREE DAY" meaning that I am not scheduled for anything. It hasn't happened in a long time. Today is the day! However, the 'should do's' start rearing their ugly heads. It's been a while since the floors have been vacuumed, lining up something for supper, catching up on the blog, looking over a stack of notes etc. I am thankful I have time for all that. I suppose if I didn't have anything to do I would be lost? Nope! I think I am quite good at entertaining myself.</p><p>Here is the latest thing to make me chuckle...</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhDlDYvnja8F7Vn9kaw2kBphfsH1GIw1RcCKln8mnnCIcPEy69Z4EBdv1qS4O2THlvW6_bcVNcOjbAuB994DWri1fTUO86zm_KQkEqiGahq74FCS4uBbKJRX1LIUVleT6hrAUurVHWtBUHIosEJMoQiOEU0Pt-_RRO-vUoyvrTT9tcgcebbRyavZw" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="479" data-original-width="485" height="632" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhDlDYvnja8F7Vn9kaw2kBphfsH1GIw1RcCKln8mnnCIcPEy69Z4EBdv1qS4O2THlvW6_bcVNcOjbAuB994DWri1fTUO86zm_KQkEqiGahq74FCS4uBbKJRX1LIUVleT6hrAUurVHWtBUHIosEJMoQiOEU0Pt-_RRO-vUoyvrTT9tcgcebbRyavZw=w640-h632" width="640" /></a></div><br />Pigmy Owl:<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg5bm5YM4QV0kOUoZISAfz3I2EndeTbthF4LWJSGIWKQzFKHyicgI0Z3lyUjsTZlCJtGFong5Y8A5gCbOI2LFr9FF0LY60PDMNEmjm-uPpTBZ2qkQXhDxqvnho5mnWzPRZpESL6dzovJQ3gC5tEmaG6qVSz91-qTpq6EiDH9z8vX9vRmOo6Y4r2tA" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="511" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg5bm5YM4QV0kOUoZISAfz3I2EndeTbthF4LWJSGIWKQzFKHyicgI0Z3lyUjsTZlCJtGFong5Y8A5gCbOI2LFr9FF0LY60PDMNEmjm-uPpTBZ2qkQXhDxqvnho5mnWzPRZpESL6dzovJQ3gC5tEmaG6qVSz91-qTpq6EiDH9z8vX9vRmOo6Y4r2tA=w544-h640" width="544" /></a></div><br />And here are a few pics I took this morning on our walk.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTAYK9kF6wfz-IP_8-qWqcC0IoMbnzjfFLYWCqZwzdE2C36rdwY9fN4i9rXPRDhZyBNUzY66uEWcc4tPd5rTj56U8YljQ9dKBRxqMh7AO1Ed7e389hm1AHCla-tXZ3cCxLlHrpcb5OpXs0AFj_2_cGbCUKDCYTU5xMvHVY4yMztMhyphenhyphenkRsA-lZ3Kw/s3024/PXL_20240207_130149153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTAYK9kF6wfz-IP_8-qWqcC0IoMbnzjfFLYWCqZwzdE2C36rdwY9fN4i9rXPRDhZyBNUzY66uEWcc4tPd5rTj56U8YljQ9dKBRxqMh7AO1Ed7e389hm1AHCla-tXZ3cCxLlHrpcb5OpXs0AFj_2_cGbCUKDCYTU5xMvHVY4yMztMhyphenhyphenkRsA-lZ3Kw/w640-h640/PXL_20240207_130149153.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilyoRyO3dP-_au-PlbjfjK1vXh0nLBK9kEs_b__FGIwenN6eZhy8iioQXCO7INCsX_wUM2PWtQFTL8NivzLCp1Ptsted8Ab-AlJ9UUsqjh4OnhXpvBCJe2csIsQZ9eSi_Meee-dPvaevnM9S67ZYOLk8uDIyksRCU1YonBr6RJq4_zDSHpgIy7Wg/s3039/PXL_20240207_130239335.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3039" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilyoRyO3dP-_au-PlbjfjK1vXh0nLBK9kEs_b__FGIwenN6eZhy8iioQXCO7INCsX_wUM2PWtQFTL8NivzLCp1Ptsted8Ab-AlJ9UUsqjh4OnhXpvBCJe2csIsQZ9eSi_Meee-dPvaevnM9S67ZYOLk8uDIyksRCU1YonBr6RJq4_zDSHpgIy7Wg/w636-h640/PXL_20240207_130239335.jpg" width="636" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBCGovOzUJf3ODbwPvR6_cMrzNuoaqum3SPzwlExvn8LTr0zKohLnK1p6Mmv4xDlX3nQMg0RGSknL_Neg217kMkuye3G6s0w7gH95FeDoBM666rJN-z3bPjkef3bmy0bJh96C6Fuhc2WLe40xCI8kjmP552NHwbHWgagaNWRNexHFFl2-bZoVWOQ/s2499/PXL_20240207_130740745.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2174" data-original-width="2499" height="556" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBCGovOzUJf3ODbwPvR6_cMrzNuoaqum3SPzwlExvn8LTr0zKohLnK1p6Mmv4xDlX3nQMg0RGSknL_Neg217kMkuye3G6s0w7gH95FeDoBM666rJN-z3bPjkef3bmy0bJh96C6Fuhc2WLe40xCI8kjmP552NHwbHWgagaNWRNexHFFl2-bZoVWOQ/w640-h556/PXL_20240207_130740745.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-87410813740474685812024-02-02T15:20:00.000-06:002024-02-02T15:20:15.738-06:00Friends and Mexico<p> Friends of ours from Canyon Lake TX, Terry and Lisa Linder have come to the Rio Grand Valley for a month's visit. We met the Linders at Snow Mountain Ranch of the Rockies in about 2006. We have often stopped at their place both coming down and going home.</p><p>We went to Mexico yesterday so Lisa could get some dental work done, while Terry and us went to see Hector and get some meds. Time out for lunch at Jessica's followed that and we had one of the best meals ever. They have new cooks and I gave them two thumbs up!! Following these chores, we hunted down a pedicure. Yes, we are hooked! It was a bunch of fun.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Butch and Terry getting peticured.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5O7zZI5zRFGyQs5WKS0r_sVnwv8-SO6TO27JjMtf2-EPOszfjESo4T3ngj6lPyvvLGgKFuStxMhu8okDsVUO0QaVadNAc_sXLjD-sB7c3gooS2Qu_LcaYVdEz4j22Np5jBWC-2ORYKsYV3vLABChI2ApNMaN5eu7W15BOs31bYsHInC49kI37MQ/s4032/PXL_20240201_194848322%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5O7zZI5zRFGyQs5WKS0r_sVnwv8-SO6TO27JjMtf2-EPOszfjESo4T3ngj6lPyvvLGgKFuStxMhu8okDsVUO0QaVadNAc_sXLjD-sB7c3gooS2Qu_LcaYVdEz4j22Np5jBWC-2ORYKsYV3vLABChI2ApNMaN5eu7W15BOs31bYsHInC49kI37MQ/w640-h480/PXL_20240201_194848322%20(1).jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"> Extras!!</span><p></p><p>I often look at Butch's hair and wonder what he can possibly be doing to get his hair that whirly twirly.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVPO3hcPMcTzfZkOvf4poz-HWj6ya0Azo7ts8x9E_tMWumFWIh-9e4eTHxKGQYtEWvDqXh6PZTOQQSkIOngdDmZrgzQ_z7O_9Zc4G5eZXuZns9N15URi_gpbmwZc6Ek0_lPHbZkZ-YzcQxSqJB6x3QMhRfjND01o7-RSweeYxHzmyCiQfh0GGaFA/s4032/PXL_20240125_171723704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVPO3hcPMcTzfZkOvf4poz-HWj6ya0Azo7ts8x9E_tMWumFWIh-9e4eTHxKGQYtEWvDqXh6PZTOQQSkIOngdDmZrgzQ_z7O_9Zc4G5eZXuZns9N15URi_gpbmwZc6Ek0_lPHbZkZ-YzcQxSqJB6x3QMhRfjND01o7-RSweeYxHzmyCiQfh0GGaFA/w300-h400/PXL_20240125_171723704.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Friend Linda shares a passion for sci-fi with Butch. I count on Candy D. to put trivia news and pictures on Facebook for me and she does such a good job. Candy was absent last night and I sure hope all is well with her. </p><p>While on Facebook I wrote on the Trophy Gardens Group about the trivia results. I don't know if any of you have done this, but while on Facebook if you make one tiny misclick it will all go away never to be seen again. This is the lesson I seem destined to learn over and over again!</p><p>I should never write on the "What are you thinking?" portion again! And if I remember I won't!!!</p><p>So for this entry, I am returning to my reliable blog. Many of my followers will not give a hoot who won trivia last night. That is what they will be reading if they go any further.</p><p>We had six teams Tuesday night in the main hall at 6:30 PM ( See how I stuck that commercial in there?) Team Part Timers won with a score of 134. A perfect score is 160 so you can see they did quite well. Team Part Timers members are Jon and Teresa Gardner, Moe Anderson, Jim Motzko, Michele La Croix, Beverly Brix, Carole Hancock, and Rich Nielsen.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhB_H73VU3ccWASdzD8bGuwsW2natHRiK8kjNeejYt9NH3ezfR9irDhGxSq6AtX5rjwKssc7rt-ADonnZbfxrHCDWgZyCA90etwIHuk1zYRb0OMrUgHJV0rNAuxij59rkGZwlmLc5KmIkxmDgciVfYy_HCv31JGW8z0v92bCF28hlmF5rGbRaC4jw" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="965" height="119" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhB_H73VU3ccWASdzD8bGuwsW2natHRiK8kjNeejYt9NH3ezfR9irDhGxSq6AtX5rjwKssc7rt-ADonnZbfxrHCDWgZyCA90etwIHuk1zYRb0OMrUgHJV0rNAuxij59rkGZwlmLc5KmIkxmDgciVfYy_HCv31JGW8z0v92bCF28hlmF5rGbRaC4jw" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>A close second was Team SmartyPants with a score of 132.<br /><br /><p></p><p> </p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-42893383780513545542024-01-30T08:49:00.000-06:002024-01-30T08:49:03.609-06:00Saving Stuff <p> I save stuff I find interesting on the Internet. </p><p>Here are some I have recently saved.</p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This is so us!!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjexeRsNhcgy5Wkly4GEPZXUhV1hhvYgGYKfdE1YjlCYQSxolkln4PKIJbghpqLZVAt5Ng3VHy2UKR5tvelflsVFIiMyryW0EmNxMUMynQj2Hj1sDYwA0tTQ59XYmSCG43EVp27xhW1JBbaJ6hfTbYxm9B7zkgYjeVyJAr1bdxwWRE8v5qiyuAc8A" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="295" data-original-width="600" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjexeRsNhcgy5Wkly4GEPZXUhV1hhvYgGYKfdE1YjlCYQSxolkln4PKIJbghpqLZVAt5Ng3VHy2UKR5tvelflsVFIiMyryW0EmNxMUMynQj2Hj1sDYwA0tTQ59XYmSCG43EVp27xhW1JBbaJ6hfTbYxm9B7zkgYjeVyJAr1bdxwWRE8v5qiyuAc8A=w640-h314" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi-7A4G6VPLY64_Ce1Dg_BgtJAMMsUfOMoYPHP6TM3VZklcVyAYcbPZqUeFRCOt6kqlQzlinjYVwY--JxYWIpv99MEx0qEYZxdpzIfVV1InoFjTRZr2JdZkzk2sl6Sqe8_HAn3arNAiCTvLrMzBmag_Bkje5I4yVjZGFyldHh6XqnjgSvzKmCoIbA" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="361" data-original-width="361" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi-7A4G6VPLY64_Ce1Dg_BgtJAMMsUfOMoYPHP6TM3VZklcVyAYcbPZqUeFRCOt6kqlQzlinjYVwY--JxYWIpv99MEx0qEYZxdpzIfVV1InoFjTRZr2JdZkzk2sl6Sqe8_HAn3arNAiCTvLrMzBmag_Bkje5I4yVjZGFyldHh6XqnjgSvzKmCoIbA=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></div> <p></p><p><br /></p><p>A neighbor recently rescued a cat and since Butch and I know "Cat" I thought she might like to know it too.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgFuCpNuhxtDSUc58G1TTYqqj20KdYG4JO_kYWhI6V2XRWCFYEPmJIyzuyln82uZkN8j8MA7vhGKmExPJfpCuyH5MYAjPkcnXerN_PBZu62EHfj5lcEcfC7bo543_BGK9Et63JJcHoa94IRm_2nSloW8tQfSV0s2Wn2DSWXTKUYZOrgk4ewGyt7Lg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1073" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgFuCpNuhxtDSUc58G1TTYqqj20KdYG4JO_kYWhI6V2XRWCFYEPmJIyzuyln82uZkN8j8MA7vhGKmExPJfpCuyH5MYAjPkcnXerN_PBZu62EHfj5lcEcfC7bo543_BGK9Et63JJcHoa94IRm_2nSloW8tQfSV0s2Wn2DSWXTKUYZOrgk4ewGyt7Lg=w459-h640" width="459" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-69760199850389820382024-01-29T07:44:00.000-06:002024-01-29T07:44:27.562-06:00Recovery<p> Around here you need to hit the ground running. January and February are the 2 busiest months of the year. So many activities are crammed into that time period that you could seriously hurt yourself if you tried to do them all.</p><p>So we don't. Butch and I plug along doing what most attracts us and letting the rest of it pass on by. We know that many of these things we would greatly enjoy but it is a bit like eating too much scrumptious food in one sitting. It will weigh on you in the end.</p><p>Yesterday it was pool and rather than repeat myself I will share what I wrote for other publications.</p><div class="Ar Au Ao" id=":u9"><div aria-controls=":x7" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Message Body" aria-multiline="true" aria-owns=":x7" class="Am aiL Al editable LW-avf tS-tW tS-tY" g_editable="true" hidefocus="true" id=":u5" itacorner="6,7:1,1,0,0" role="textbox" spellcheck="false" style="direction: ltr; min-height: 209px;" tabindex="1"><div>Pool Pairs Sunday, January 28th Results</div><div>This past Sunday was the pool competition where your partner was the person you signed up with, unlike other Sundays where we draw names for partners. </div><div>Eleven teams participated so every team played 10 games.</div><div>First place were Barb and Butch Brooker with a score of 8 wins.</div><div>Second place were Arja and Greg, Linda and Ray Gabel, Sally and Paul Kelleher each team with 7 wins. </div><div>President Paul Kelleher announced we are having an in-park Olymipic competition for men and women. Yippee. I thought about making the header "I am positive...that Butch is negative." But then I thought I had better not because it may confuse someone.</p><p>We are free to resume our regular routine and it feels like it has been a long time coming.</p><p>So today we will go shopping, pick up a prescription at the pharmacy, and stop into the DonWes Flea Market. I need a glass nail file because I seem to have misplaced the one I have. I still have it; I just do not know where it is! I also want to pick up some new sunglasses. Mine are starting to show some wear. I know I have had them over 5 years; perhaps closer to ten years, because we were still in Magnolia Park when I purchased them.</p><p>So now it is time to resume the mundane and we are excited about it!</p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-27088261760729491102024-01-26T08:42:00.000-06:002024-01-26T08:42:43.892-06:00Twiddling my thumbs!<p> Not much to write about when we are in quarantine. Butch is doing very well. Once again doing chores and wishing he could be cut loose. He plans to test again tomorrow to see what the verdict is then. Hopefully, we can return to life as we know it. In the meantime...</p><p>I ran across this post on Facebook and enjoyed it. You might too!</p><p>Heavens to Mergatroyd!</p><p>The other day a not-so-elderly (I say 75) lady said something to her son about driving a Jalopy; and he looked at her and said, "What the heck is a Jalopy?" He had never heard of the word jalopy! She knew she was old ...But not that old.</p><p>Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory when you read this and chuckle.</p><p>About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions that have become obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology.</p><p>These phrases included: Don't touch that dial; Carbon copy; You sound like a broken record; and Hung out to dry.</p><p>Back in the olden days, we had a lot of moxie . We'd put on our best bib and tucker, to straighten up and fly right.</p><p>Heavens to Betsy!</p><p>Gee whillikers!</p><p>Jumping Jehoshaphat!</p><p>Holy Moley!</p><p>We were in like Flynn and living the life of Riley ; and even a regular guy couldn't accuse us of being a knucklehead, a nincompoop, or a pill. Not for all the tea in China!</p><p>Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when was the last time anything was swell? Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys, and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and pedal pushers.</p><p>Oh, my aching back! Kilroy was here, but he isn't anymore.</p><p>We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can say, "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!" Or, "This is a fine kettle of fish!"</p><p>We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent, as oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.</p><p>Poof, go the words of our youth. Where have all those great phrases gone?</p><p>Long gone: Pshaw, The milkman did it. Hey! It's your nickel. Don't forget to pull the chain. Knee-high to a grasshopper.</p><p>Well, Fiddlesticks! <b>Going like sixty</b>. I'll see you in the funny papers. Don't take any wooden nickels. Wake up and smell the roses.</p><p>It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than Carter has liver pills.</p><p>This can be disturbing stuff! (Carter's Little Liver Pills are gone too!)</p><p>This leaves us to wonder where Superman will find a phone booth.</p><p>See ya later, alligator! After a while crocodile. Oki-Doki artichokey!</p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-59752334273221683452024-01-25T08:56:00.001-06:002024-01-25T08:56:36.934-06:00Health report<p> Butch is on the mend. He has slept a lot and that is good. He no longer has coughing and hocking fits, or at least they are not frequent. The next hurdle will be to test negative. We are still not sure when to test next. Saturday will be day 5. By then he will be getting antsy. Actually, he is already antsy. I think it is just a part of him.😀</p><p>I am still not having any symptoms. </p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3952739.post-38174177703082784612024-01-23T18:01:00.005-06:002024-01-23T18:01:47.575-06:00What he thought...<p> Butch woke up with a bad cold. He said he had to sleep in the recliner because if he laid down flat he would choke on the stuff. So I told him he really needed to test to make sure if it was or wasn't just a bad cold. The verdict was covid; I tested too and my test was negative. Yes, we could have "faked it" as I suspect some people have done. I suppose it could even be rampant because there are lots of sick people in all the parks. It is starting to look like a super spread.</p><p>So I am sure he will get better and life will resume as normal; it seems that this virus will hang around for a decade or two. I will continue what I can to keep it at bay.</p><p>On the brighter side, I finally got a morning walk in after several days of rain and cold temperatures. It is finally warming up; close to 80's today. </p><p>Till next time...</p>Barbara Brookerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13370247249986191614noreply@blogger.com0
