Ladies Day in Mexico

Peggy and I went to Mexico today for some serious shopping. (No Men) After all going shopping with men is like going hunting with the game warden. We also enjoyed lunch at Garcia's. Pictured below are Chicken Pancho's and they were delicious!!

Valentines Day in South Texas.

Butch and I went to the grocery store yesterday about 4:30 on Valentines eve. That was a mistake! A mistake you say? Why would that be?  Valentines in deep South Texas compares to Christmas eve. It is a big, big deal. There are vendors on every street corner selling big baskets they have put together with stuffed toys, candies and flowers as well as all the stores selling the same. Every time we have ventured out among the locals on Valentines day we say to ourselves "never again" and then we forget!

Don’t Mess With Texas.

Don’t Mess With Texas.

A police gunboat equipped with three super quiet 300 horsepower outboard engines and emblazoned with the words ‘Texas Highway Patrol’ is seen in this undated handout photo released to Reuters March 1, 2012. The Texas Department of Public Safety Thursday dedicated the second of six new gunboats, 34 foot shallow water craft known as ‘interceptors,’ similar to the Navy swift boats which patrolled the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and said the ships will be deployed on the Rio Grande and the Intercoastal Waterway, which separates the mainland from Padre Island. Reuters reported, via Free Republic:
Texas unveiled the second of six new ‘interceptor’ gunboats on Thursday, similar to Navy swift boats that plied the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War, to patrol the waterways of the Mexico border.
The Texas Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Texas Highway Patrol and the Texas Rangers, said the 34-foot shallow water crafts would be deployed on the Rio Grande and the Intercoastal Waterway, which separates the Texas mainland from Padre Island.
“They have night vision capabilities, they have ballistic shielding, and the first couple of boats have fully automatic machine guns,” department spokesman Tom Vinger told Reuters.
Texas Governor Rick Perry has repeatedly called on the Obama administration to send National Guard troops to boost security on the Texas-Mexico border, which is heavily trafficked by often gun-toting drug smugglers from Mexico.
Vinger said the boats would mainly patrol the Rio Grande, and would be geared toward stopping smugglers of drugs, weapons and illegal immigrants.

Texas Highway Patrol

The Brookers, Gordons and Stilsons went to The Riverside in Mission TX along the Rio Grande River for one of their tenderloins. They are so large that each couple shares one and it is plenty for both.
While there we saw the Texas Highway Patrol on the river. The river is considered highway too. And then we saw a woman using the watery highway to come from Chimney RV Park to Riverside. She was not young but I will say she was gathering a fair amount of male attention. I admired her ability to navigate the board while standing on it.
