Post Nasal News

It went off without a hitch on my end because I slept through it. I am feeling a bit more like myself this morning. My restrictions are that I can not bend over or lift anything heavy. No problem as long as Butch is willing to be a house elf. Harry Potter fans will get the reference.

I was in the door of the South Texas Sinus Institute at 7:30 AM and back out again at 10:30 or so. Butch watched the procedure on a monitor in the surgical waiting room. Dr. Honrubia asked him if he had been watching and he said yes. He said, "So you saw the removal of those 3 pockets of infection." Butch said he had. That was what had been making my life miserable almost all winter.

I am supposed to breathe through my mouth for the next 9 days. That is and will be the hardest part because it dries out my mouth and feels like I have a cold. You know-the stuffy nose feeling? For the most part, it is not too bad a thing to go through and I do believe if a person did not have the infection going into it, it would be simpler still. I did not come home with packing in my nostrils. They only do that if there are bleeding issues and apparently, I did not have any although they had warned me it was possible.
It is really strange that I would be the one to have this procedure done because it has been Butch with long term sinus issues. He plans to look into it next fall. I am looking forward to enjoying life on a whole new level.😊

Celebration of Life-Don Louks

Michelle Louks, a granddaughter of Don Louks, hosted the celebration in the pool hall at Magnolia Park. The pool hall was the most perfect place for that celebration as playing pool was what Don was most known for in the Rio Grande Valley.

I am going to make this a little more personal than I usually do because Don made such a big difference in Butch's life. Butch learned so much from him. Don was always the one everyone wanted to beat and now his student is the one to beat.

Many of Don's friends were in attendance. He would have enjoyed the gathering.

War Games

I obtained this article from this website: http://nowiknow.com/

It's common during a war for opposing sides to take prisoners -- but in many cases, there's an understanding that these prisoners of war (POWs) are to be treated, generally speaking, humanely. And despite the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany during World War II, how they treated Allied POWs was, perhaps incredibly, no exception. While Nazi concentration camps were the site of endless horrors, POW camps were relatively humane (again, relatively). The Nazis even allowed the home nations of the POWs to send care packages to those imprisoned, which included items such as playing cards and board games.

For Allied POWs, this minor bit of hospitality was more than welcome -- for some, it was also a ticket to freedom.

The United States government worked every angle to try to get its soldiers home. And the German's allowance for some playing cards and the like gave the U.S. some interesting opportunities. The government, partnering with the United States Playing Card Company, developed a special type of Bicycle-brand playing cards. Those cards, some seen above, held escape maps within them, printed directly on the card. As recounted by the company’s official website, when moistened, the cards’ glue — a special type of glue used for this purpose — would weaken. The cards’ faces would peel away, leaving nothing but detailed escape plans behind.

The United Kingdom pulled off a similar trick. In 1941, British intelligence worked with John Waddington Ltd., the UK company licensed to make Monopoly games, to make a special version of the classic board game. According to Mental_Floss magazine, these sets came with a cornucopia of clandestine goodies. Maps, printed on silk to avoid destruction by weather, were hidden within the box. The games also included metal files and magnetic compasses to facilitate an escape. And included beneath the Monopoly money was real money — French, German, and Italian notes were among the fake bills.

While these board games would be collectors’ items today, unfortunately, finding one would be a trick all to itself. All of the spy-enhanced Monopoly sets were destroyed after the war, according to ABC News.

Birthday Celebration

There were four of us friends in Magnolia that celebrated birthdays in January (Kay) February(Peggy) and March (Bill and Barb) Donn and Butch have summer birthdays. So Kay baked us a cake and we had ice cream too to celebrate all our birthdays.

Kay had this wreath on her wall that she had made at crafts and it appealed to me. She said most of the pieces were purchased at Dollar Tree. I just may get me some gumption and make me one of those. The stars were purchased at Michaels

As you may have noticed all it took was a bit of hope that I could get away from the daily headaches very soon to lift my spirits. I have high expectations of success.

A mockingbird landed on the mirror. You can only imagine what Mr. Butch thinks of that! I think he/she has a scar on his front.

Sinuplasty on Friday

I am set to have the sinus procedure on Friday, March 29th. Dr. Hilmy, a cardiologist, has given the okay and said I only needed to be off Xarelto for 48 hours before the procedure. However, he wants me back on it ASAP after the procedure. People on Warfarin need more time off of it before surgery. He said with Xarelto 48 hours is sufficient. He did not even hint about having any more testing done.
So we didn't have a fight. 😉 And I do not need to see him again unless I have a reason.
Alrighty then! Things are looking up. Finally!!

Some are headed north

A few more people pack up and leave every day. I was able to watch a whole movie on NetFlix a couple of days ago. I am housebound with the air on once again. Thursday last was a beautiful day so I went for a walk and that was day 2 because I had walked the day before as well. But Thursday night with a cool breeze coming in the open window my left nostril starting feeling fuzzy and shortly after one of the massive headaches grabbed hold once again. I had gone about 3 weeks without one and almost felt like I was home free. Guess not.

There have been a bunch of going away parties in the last few weeks. Thank God we are not invited to most of them. If I could choose one word to wrap up all the negatives to being here for a season it would be "FOOD". Everything revolves around it and there is way too much of it too often. I have learned a thing or two because I only take and eat what I truly love and then only a spoonful of it and that seems to work fairly well. One place the food phenomena doesn't seem to happen is the pool hall and I appreciate that.

Heart Doc Tomorrow

I have an appointment tomorrow with the heart doctor and we are going to have words. I will let you know what those words are tomorrow after the appointment.
