Butch and Gary went golfing in-between events the rest of us participated in. http://www.santacaligon.com/default.htm We next went to Independence MO to experience Santa Cali Gon days. This is where the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails originated. We went on Sunday and again on Monday to see the Beatles clones. Actually the group is named Liverpool but they do a tribute to the Beatles and very well I must say. They stay in character throughout their act. Posted by Hello

Whew! Time to catch up. We went to Lee's Summit over the holiday and Gary kept us on the move as usual. On Saturday morning we went into KC and rode a portion of the Indian Creek trail. Very different riding from what I am used to; hairpin turns added to sudden steep inclines plus many pedestrians! I think the scenery was beautiful but I was almost too busy to notice. I did get a few scenic shots after we stopped. This fella was fishing for an hour to pass the time. He said he got a really good one the day before. Posted by Hello

Thursday, September 2

The days are dwindling that I will be able to ride the Raccoon River Valley Trail so I took full advantage of the wonderful weather and rode to Cooper yesterday and today. I love the new bike. I average about 11.5 MPH which isn't real fast but I get there. I am a turtle; it may take me a long time to get there but I can go quite a ways. It takes me an hour and a half to go to Cooper and return...that is if I do not stop to take photos. Sometimes I am compelled to stop. I see it and think, the light, the color and the shot as a whole will never be here in exactly this way again. That stops me. From here we will be going to Altoona IA for a week but before that we are going to see the Missouri kids over Labor Day weekend. We will leave the RV in Jefferson until our rent is up on the 7th and then return and move ourselves down to the Adventureland Campground in Altoona. Along about the 14th we will return to Peculiar MO and stay in that park for a month before meandering south. Continuing to "Keep Movin' On".:-) Posted by Hello

I liked this photo well enough to make it wallpaper on my desktop. Purple, yellow, blue and green! Posted by Hello

Yesterday I did a quick run to Cooper on the bike trail. As I was coming back, less than a mile from the Jefferson Depot, I enjoyed a deer encounter. She was standing beside the trail and saw me first. She seemed to be trying to determine what I was. I understand her dilemna as I have had it myself on occasion. I slowed my pace to a crawl but continued to ride once I noticed her. She let me get within 10 feet before bolting. I somehow knew she wouldn't stick around for photos. She was a beauty. Posted by Hello
Thanks Sandy for sending me this link. I have probably encountered Chuck Offenberger on the trail without realizing it. I feel the same as he does about the trails. They bring new life to small towns.

Interesting tidbit: If you bike 100 miles per year, you are in the top 1% of bikers in the nation. Learned at The Bike Barn in Ogden Iowa :-) Posted by Hello

Rode to Herndon today. Cloudy and cool. Not a bad day for riding but pictures turn out better on sunny days, I think. Now I know all you "weed" people are not going to be impressed with my thistle picture But...I like it for its form and color. heehee Posted by Hello

There was a rededication of the Raccoon River Valley Trail after a resurfacing project from Redfield to Linden. It was a very nice ride, free, good company and we each got a tee shirt. Posted by Hello
Catching Up! Today there was a Poker Run on the trail starting at Redfield IA to Linden IA and returning. For those participating there were points along the trail where you chose a card to make a poker hand. I was one card away from a straight.  Posted by Hello
